"Gil North" es el seudónimo de Geoffrey Horne, un autor británico conocido por sus historias detectivescas. Sus novelas suelen presentar al sargento Cluff, quien está establecido en Yorkshire. La serie fue tan popular que fue adaptada para la pantalla grande por BBC en la década de 1960, bajo el título "Cluff".
North nació en Skipton, Yorkshire, y recibió su educación en la Escuela Gramática Ermysted's. Más tarde asistió al Colegio Christ's en Cambridge. En 1949, se casó con Betty Duthie. Desde 1938 hasta 1955, North se desempeñó como funcionario público en las colonias africanas del Reino Unido. Pasó sus últimos años en su ciudad natal de Skipton, donde falleció en 1988.
Además de publicar bajo el seudónimo de Gil North, Horne también publicó novelas bajo su propio nombre, Geoffrey Horne.
