¡Alan Orloff nació en Washington, D.C. y se crió en Maryland! Su carrera antes de convertirse en escritor fue variada y no tradicional. Después de graduarse de la Universidad de Maryland con una licenciatura en Ingeniería Mecánica, trabajó en submarinos nucleares, supervisó a trabajadores de ensamblaje y facilitó la transferencia de tecnología del programa Star Wars. También aprendió a apilar lavadoras tres altas en un almacén con un montacargas y comenzó su propio negocio de boletines informativos sobre reciclaje y reducción de residuos. Finalmente, se decidió por la escritura como su profesión.
El debut literario de Orloff, "Diamonds for the Dead", fue publicado en 2010 y fue finalista del Premio Agatha al Mejor Primer Novel. Desde entonces, ha escrito dos libros en la serie Last Laff mystery, "Killer Routine" y "Deadly Campaign". Bajo el seudónimo Zak Allen, ha publicado tres libros: "The Taste", "First Time Killer" y "Ride-Along". Su thriller "Running from the Past" fue una de las selecciones iniciales de Kindle Scout y su novela "Pray for the Innocent" ganó el Premio ITW Thriller 2019 al Mejor Original E-Book. Su novela "I Know Where You Sleep" fue finalista del premio Shamus al Mejor Primer Novel PI.
