Poul Anderson fue un reconocido autor estadounidense, famoso por sus contribuciones a la ciencia ficción, la fantasía y la ficción histórica. Nació en 1926 y se crio en una familia bilingüe de habla danesa y estadounidense, lo que le permitió desde temprana edad conocer diversas culturas y tradiciones. Este trasfondo, junto con su título en física de la Universidad de Minnesota, influyeron en gran medida en su escritura, especialmente en su ciencia ficción.
Anderson comenzó su carrera como escritor durante la Edad de Oro de la ciencia ficción y rápidamente ganó reconocimiento por su ciencia ficción dura, misterios, novelas históricas y lo que él llamaba "fantasía con remaches". Su capacidad para crear personajes cuidadosamente desarrollados, combinada con su pericia científica, lo distinguieron de muchos de sus contemporáneos.
