Michael Morpurgo es un autor inglés altamente reconocido, conocido principalmente por su trabajo en la literatura infantil. Es reconocido por su estilo narrativo único, a menudo descrito como "mágico", y caracterizado por temas potentes de triunfo y personajes que tienen una conexión profunda con la naturaleza. Nacido en St. Albans, Hertfordshire, en 1943, Morpurgo fue evacuado a Cumberland durante los últimos años de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Más tarde regresó a Londres y luego se mudó a Essex. Después de una breve y poco exitosa estadía en el ejército, Morpurgo se dedicó a la enseñanza y comenzó a escribir. Dejó la enseñanza en 1976 para establecer, junto con su esposa, "Farms for City Children", un programa que invita a niños de escuelas de zonas urbanas a quedarse y trabajar en granjas en Devon, Gales y Gloucestershire.
