Alaya Dawn Johnson es una autora muy aclamada de ciencia ficción y fantasía. Tiene un gran interés en la ficción especulativa y histórica, y disfruta de diversas cocinas étnicas, especialmente la cocina sureña de la India. Su formación académica incluye un BA en Lenguas y Culturas de Asia Oriental de la Universidad de Columbia.
